Museu do Carro Eléctrico da Cidade do Porto

GO ALONG THE RAILS OF THE HISTORY OF PORTO!

Inaugurated in May 1992 in an old thermoelectric plant, the Museu do Carro Eléctrico (Tram Museum) preserves and disseminates Portuguese history and culture through exhibitions and collections dedicated to urban rail transports in the city of Porto. Everybody is invited to experiment and get a closer look at the development and impact that the evolution of these transports had on the city's society and economy. Are you ready for a journey to the past?

The visit begins with a few curiosities. For example, did you know that the first trams in Porto were green and white? The Museu do Carro Eléctrico gathers a collection of 16 trams, 5 trailers and 2 support automobiles that, between 1871 and 1950 wandered through Porto's streets.

However, the visit invites us to explore more than the trams themselves, you can visit the machine room and the inventory as well. The Museu do Carro Eléctrico is a good place to visit as a family. The little ones will be fascinated by the objects of ancient times and the parents and grandparents will be able to play the role of guides for a day and explain how things used to be a few decades ago. A journey through time is a good suggestion for next Sunday, isn't it?

Cool Tip:Annually, between Massarelos and the Passeio Alegre a parade takes place, gathering some of this material.
