Parque da Cidade do Porto
Parque da Cidade is one of the green areas in Porto and the largest urban park in the country. It was inaugurated in 1993 and designed by the landscape architect Sidónio Pardal. It is about 205 acres and proudly welcomes locals and tourists when the weather allows.
The park was thought to be a sophisticated landscape. The flora and fauna give it special features but what’s surprising is the way this green area perfectly blends in the city. Among lakes, trees, stones and pathways, Parque da Cidade is not only beautiful, but also an excellent place to relax or walk around.
The park also has places that provide memorable experiences in the city. Some examples are Pavilhão da Água, which was designed to create the illusion that it is hanging in the air; Sea Life Center, where children and adults can learn more about marine life; Queimódromo, which holds Feira Popular do Porto (the city’s carnival) and Queima das Fitas (the university students’ celebration in Porto); it is also where the city marathon begins and ends and it also supports the car race Circuito Urbano da Boavista.
On a sunny day, the “green lung” of Porto is a must-visit.
Cool Tip: Parque da Cidade is a good choice for a picnic with friends and family. Why don’t you invite your favorite people for a special moment in a place where children can play while grown-ups talk?
