Armazém dos Linhos

Since 1905

The origin of Armazém dos Linhos takes us back to 1905 – here, at the time, a family business could be found, a large tailor shop that went on to print exclusive designs on the fabrics and sell them all over the country.

Life’s twists and turns caused Armazém dos Linhos not to pass to the next generation in 2011, but Filipa Pinto Basto didn’t let this historical house close its doors.

Architect with over 10 years of experience, Filipa challenged her sister Leonor, a landscape architect, to join her in this adventure. The Pinto Basto sisters bought the company and decided to revive an old passion: the fabrics and the time dedicated to textile creations.

Besides continuing to value what’s best in Portugal, relaunching the drawings of “Chitas de Alcobaça” was one of the first objectives. They re-produced the patterns of old times, making them available to the public in new formats. Pieces of decoration, computer folders and even notebooks and albums appeared.

To this reinvention of “Chitas de Alcobaça”, a wide range of fabrics is added - national linens, fabrics for decorative or fashion arts, jute, canvas (...) - a 100% artisanal collection of baby clothes and a special experience. In addition to the personalized and thoughtful service and the extended hours, at Armazém dos Linhos, occasionally, there are sewing workshops. Tradition and modernity complement each other harmoniously - at Armazém dos Linhos we have the best of both worlds.

A curiosity: Mario Testino - the photographer who works for the most renowned international fashion brands - shopped at Armazém dos Linhos when he was in Porto.

Cool Tip: In addition to the fabrics, at Armazém dos Linhos you'll find a domestic produced lovely line of baby clothes that's worth knowing!
